The Fist of God

Frederick Forsyth, The Fist of God (Corgi Books, 1994)

Summary: One of the best spy novels written by one of the best spy novelists. A rich, detailed, and utterly believable blend of historical fiction and intrigue centered around the Persian Gulf War. Commandos, traitors, soldiers, politicians, missiles, and a vast desert.

Key Quote: "Mike Martin saw the youth first, or the boy would have died that day. He was driving his battered, stained and rusty pick-up truck, its rear laden with water melons he had bought at one of the outlying farms near Jahra, when he saw the white linen-dressed head pop up and down from behind a pile of rubble by the roadside. He also caught the tip of the rifle the boy was carrying before it disappeared behind the rubble." - p. 143

Bottom Line: Read this book for a riveting escapist yarn that also offers a glimpse of modern war (even if it was written a quarter-century ago).
